Nutrition Advice from Our Chesapeake Chiropractor

At Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Chesapeake, our chiropractors, Drs. Eric and Suzanne Santjer provide care and treatment to help patients live the best life possible. The "whole person" approach means that in addition to chiropractic techniques such as manual spinal manipulations and the Activator technique, our chiropractors also provide nutritional counseling so that patients in the 23320 zip code can live a full and healthy life. Often, we can help patients who suffer from back pain or migraine headache pain by changing their diet and ensuring they receive the proper nutrients.

Three Easy Nutrition Tips to Follow

Chesapeake chiropractors provide nutrition tipsThe key to nutrition is eating whole foods that contain plenty of vitamins and minerals. Fruits and vegetables are great sources for many of the nutrients your body needs to thrive. Eating enough vegetables and fruits in a day can seem like a challenge, but there are ways you can be sure to get in enough servings. Try blending a smoothie in the morning for breakfast. Use two or three different fruits in the smoothie along with low fat milk or soy milk for an added bit of protein.

If you struggle to get enough vegetables into your diet, an easy way to increase the amount you get is to double the number of vegetables called for in a recipe. If a recipe for soup calls for one carrot, use two. Turn to vegetables instead of pretzels or chips as a mid-afternoon snack. To make the vegetables more accessible, chop them into bite-sized pieces at the beginning of the week and store them in individual portion sized containers.

Our chiropractors understand that it is not always easy to eat well. If you find yourself in a situation where the only options are high in fat or otherwise unhealthy, don't panic. Do your best to return to your normal eating habits as soon as possible.

As part of nutritional counseling at our clinic, our chiropractors can recommend vitamin and mineral supplements to help you make up for any deficiencies in your diet. They can explain the benefits of each vitamin and why you need a certain amount of it.

What Is the Activator Method?

Advanced Chiropractic Care in Chesapeake

Today’s chiropractor makes full use of modern methods and technologies to help relieve pain and promote health. That is why here at Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we offer the Activator Method, an advanced mechanical manipulation technique, in addition to traditional Activator tool for low force adjustments in Chesapeakeadjustments and other therapies. But what is so special and effective about this method -- and is it the right solution for you?

The technique uses quick (on the order of 3 milliseconds), low-force impulses administered to the spine by a handheld device called an activator. It is a method of adjusting the spinal vertebrae to a very tiny degree, allowing subluxations (misalignments) to be corrected as subtly as possible, preventing the possibility of injury or discomfort. Our patients feel no pain whatsoever from this technique, and it is safe for just about anyone, including pregnant women, the very young and the very old. The fact that it takes place so quickly means that restless children have no problem remaining still for it. Since its development by Dr. Arlan Fuhr in the 1960s, it has grown in popularity to become the most widely-used low-force adjustment method among chiropractors worldwide.

Ask Our Chiropractor About It!

So, how do you go about “getting activated?” One of the first things we do in administering this technique is to have you lie down on a table so we can perform muscle tests to detect whether both legs appear balanced. A functional imbalance indicates a spinal problem that we can address with an activator, thus relieving back pain or other issues caused by a pinched nerve. We can also use this technique to treat neck pain, migraine headaches, arthritis and other joint conditions. If these aches and pains sound all too familiar to you, you might be an ideal candidate for this time-tested adjustment method. Contact our Chesapeake office today and schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Santjer. Sometimes the tiniest adjustments make all the difference!
