Physical Medicine: The Natural Way to Pain Management and Injury Rehabilitation

Are there certain physical motions you can no longer make? Do you suffer from continuous pain due to a chronic ailment such as osteoarthritis or sciatica? Has a recent surgery or extended bed rest left you weak and/or stiff? Any of these reasons would be reason enough to consider physical medicine and rehabilitation. This all-natural approach to treatment can get you moving again and help you reign in your pain -- and we offer it here at Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation.

Physical medicine does not cover just one single technique; instead, it draws on a number of different techniques aimed at improving your range of motion and relieving the underlying causes of your pain. If you are in an auto accident, for example, you might have a spinal imbalance that pinches a nerve, which in turn causes chronic pain. Once we have made the necessary chiropractic corrections to free that trapped nerve, we still need to help you recover your strength, muscle tone and balance. To achieve this, we typically prescribe corrective exercises, some of which you can practice at home or at work. Other injuries involve lumps of scar tissue called adhesions that actually interfere painfully with muscle motion and healing. For these situations we may prescribe trigger point therapy to release the adhesions and other forms of massage to boost circulation, relieve pain and reduce inflammation without drugs.

These same techniques can work wonders for chronic conditions as well. Regular, ongoing rehabilitation can help relieve the muscle knots characteristic of fibromyalgia, for instance, while massage and exercise can help with arthritis pain management.

  • ""I first came to Atlantic Chiropractic 5 years ago with a pinched nerve in my neck. I was in so much pain, I could not even move my head. Dr. Eric diagnosed the problem almost immediately and confirmed it with the EMG. He set up a treatment plan and told me I probably would not feel significant relief for a good two weeks. I appreciated his thoroughness, expertise, and honesty. As it turned out, I was actually pain free in one week! I always refer my friends to Dr. Eric/Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation for the most trusted effective chiropractic care.""
