Five Ways To Prevent Lower Back Pain

Here at Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we are proud to be your Chesapeake chiropractor. Our patients are frequently here due to low back pain, which we treat with a variety of chiropractic methods, nutrition, and massage therapy. While the chiropractic methods our chiropractors, Dr. Suzanne Santjer and Dr. Eric Santjer use are excellent for relieving pain, you can sometimes prevent this type of pain from happening at all. Today we are discussing the top five tips for preventing lower back pain as our blog topic.

5 Tips to Avoid Low Back Pain

1. Tip one for beating low back pain is to keep good posture. Whether sitting or standing, you can keep the pressure off the lower back by keeping the spine straight. When you stand straight and sit with your back completely straight you will dramatically lessen strain, and therefore pain.

2. Tip two is to alter your sleep position. If you are a "stomach sleeper," try to alter that since Chesapeake chiropractors give tips to prevent low back painsleeping on your stomach can force your back into an arch, thereby raising the odds of lower back pain development. The ideal way to sleep is sideways, with bent legs. Placing a pillow between the knees can be very helpful in reducing spinal pressure.

3. The third tip for avoiding lower back pain is to be careful with lifting. No matter what you're lifting, use your legs, not your back, to avoid strain and pain.

4. Tip four is to get regular exercise. Any type of basic exercise works: Walking, running, or biking are all excellent ways to stay mobile, keep the back strong, and avoid pain. Also, we recommend strengthening the core through Pilates or core-focused workouts.

5. Finally, tip five is to eat healthy so that you can keep a proper body weight. When you carry extra pounds around, it can make for extra pressure on your lower back, so keeping at a healthy weight can make you feel much better!

  • ""I first came to Atlantic Chiropractic 5 years ago with a pinched nerve in my neck. I was in so much pain, I could not even move my head. Dr. Eric diagnosed the problem almost immediately and confirmed it with the EMG. He set up a treatment plan and told me I probably would not feel significant relief for a good two weeks. I appreciated his thoroughness, expertise, and honesty. As it turned out, I was actually pain free in one week! I always refer my friends to Dr. Eric/Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation for the most trusted effective chiropractic care.""
