Suffering from Sciatica?
If you have a buttock, leg or foot that has been experiencing sharp, stabbing pains, tingling or “pins and needles,” loss of sensation or mysterious weakness in the muscles, the problem may not be in your leg at all but in your back. Specifically, you may be suffering from sciatica, a set of symptoms that occur when your sciatic nerve becomes impinged. But for natural, non-invasive pinched nerve treatment, you know where to turn -- to our skilled team at Atlantic Chiropractic and Rehabilitation.
You have two sciatic nerves, each one running down from your lower lumbar spine through a buttock and down the rear portion of each leg, where it eventually branches out into numerous smaller nerves in the foot. This nerve can be pinched by a bulging disc, bony overgrowth or vertebral displacement. When this happens, the entire nerve suffers impairment and begins functioning erratically, causing shooting leg pains, weakness, numbness, and sometimes low back pain.
An injury, chronic poor posture, degenerative spinal disease or congenital spinal imbalance can make you vulnerable to recurring bouts of such impingement, Sciatic nerve impingement is also a common problem among pregnant women. You may have been expecting back pain from the bodily changes that normally take place during pregnancy, but the changes in weight distribution can squeeze the sciatic nerve.
